SongWriter Sessions @ The Locke Bar
Thursday 27th May 2010 9.00pm

The SongWriter Sessions@The Locke Bar, continues upstairs at The Locke Bar, George's Quay, Limerick 9.00pm May 27th with special guest Sarah Barry.

Cork born singer, Sarah Barry grew up surrounded by music. Her family's tradition of taking part in regular sessions in her Grandmother's pub, greatly influenced Sarah's decision to pursue a career in music.

Sarah started performing at the young age of 7, and her natural ability to captivate an audience meant that a career in performance was inevitable.

Growing up, Sarah received many awards for her singing such as the 'if I had a remote control for humans I would mute you' award and performed whenever the chance presented itself! A big step in Sarah's life was the decision to study music in University College Cork. Here Sarah was introduced to all types of music, from classical, jazz, pop and the experimental sounds of the Avant Garde movement. This enriched Sarah's musical knowledge, and was another step in her decision to pursue a full time career in music.

Sarah began singing professionally when she was 16, when she was booked for various weddings, and other events. In October 2007, having heard her sing at local event, Michael Flately invited Sarah to sing at his wedding. Since then she has performed at over 100 weddings both in Ireland and abroad. When asked what Michael thought about Sarah's voice, he made this reply;

"Sarah Barry is one of the most extraordinary singers to come out of Ireland. Her voice is truly that of an angel, Michael & Niamh Flatley"

Having a wealth of life experience and performance behind her, Sarah decided to put pen to paper and begin her songwriting career. Her songs reflect everyday life experiences from love, death, and the need to enjoy life and be happy! With the combination of clever lyrics and the soft tones of Sarah's voice, her music has the ability to allow an audience transcend their physical surroundings, but also get an audience stomping their feet and clapping their hands, and mabey escape their surroundings for the length song..
