The SongWriterSessions@TheLockeBar, continues upstairs at The Locke Bar, George's Quay, Limerick 9.00pm Oct 14th

This weeks special guest is singer songwriter Conor Sheehan.

IT'S NEVER TOO LATE TO BECOME WHAT YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN !
Conor Sheehan..Limerick's award winning songwriter was inspired and encouraged by a 19th century English writer's determination never to give up trying, so he did'nt give up !
Conor spent all his working life in a very demanding career with an International Aviation company. The pressure of his job and his committment to his wife and family did'nt leave him very much time for the other love of his life, music and songwriting ,but he always hoped the day would come when he could concentrate fully on his passion for music.
Eventually the time came and he got the chance.."I was always doing a bit of songwriting but I think that I wrote my best songs after I was able to give up my job and spend more time doing what I love best.
Last year I found myself on an airplane ,going to Boston as one of 5 finalists in the Boston Folk Festival, out of 350 entrants.A few days later I was back on the airplane ,going home as the winner of the contest. That win was a long time coming and all the sweeter for it.
I don't think I'll ever stop songwrting, at least I hope not. It gives me great satisfaction and helps to make some sense of the world for me. I want to sincerely thank all the Guys in Limerick Songwriters for giving people like me me,in fact everyone and anyone the chance to express themselves in a very supportive environment.Itmakes all the difference !

Niall Quinn is a legend in music circles in Limerick and beyond. Original lead singer with the Cranberries, Niall continues to be at the cutting edge of what really matters in music...a truly authentic voice Niall performs his songs with a passion that captures audiences and cuts through the blandness (of life, love, music) with his sparkling irreverent lyrics set to mean melodies. The SongWriter Sessions@The Locke Bar, continues at The Locke Bar, George's Quay, Limerick 9.00pm Aug 26th with special guest Ross O’Donoghue.

SITDOWN.PARTY! Fairly Self Explanatory.

Ross O'Donoghue's musical journey has seen him talk his way into singing with John Butler Trio and sing his way into talking with Meatloaf.
His friend Mikey is a much better singer and guitarist than him and would like a pet monkey.
When their powers combine, and they stop watching cheesy cartoons, they play music created to make you smile, think things about stuff and bang your hands together.
Looking forward to hitting the Locke on August 26th, SITDOWN.PARTY!
Will be bringing lashings of Indiefolkpop, a sprinkling of likeability and a condom powered melodica.

As usual all aspiring songwriters are invited to attend and play there songs in front of a live audience. All types of music and singers are welcome, a limited amount of instruments will be available for use on the night.

Limerick Songwriters @ the Locke Bar Thurs 19th Aug 2010

SongWriter Sessions @ The Locke Bar
Thursday 19th August 2010 9.00pm

The SongWriter Sessions@The Locke Bar, continues at The Locke Bar, George's Quay, Limerick 9.00pm Aug 19th with special guest Australian singer/songwriter Rennie Field.

This weeks special guest is Australian singer/songwriter Rennie Field.

With so many earnest, guitar-toting young men now struggling desperately for attention, it’s rare to find a genuine artist – one driven not by the urge to impress others with their talent, but by something even more primal. One for whom making music is as integral part of their existence as eating, breathing, or talking.

For artists like Renny Field, music is a way of life. It’s a way of letting go - thinking aloud as honestly as you would silently (and regardless of whether anyone is listening). For with our thoughts, we make the world. And so forth.

Happily, as it turns out, the courage and humility that this process of “letting go” requires seems to be something that audiences respond to. As a result, Renny Field has earned a reputation as a truly engaging live performer.

A quiet and unassuming personality, Renny Field lets his songs do all the talking. Delivered without subterfuge or pretext, the simplest of stories delivered frankly can touch profoundly. And so it is that whether involving a full band or in an intimate solo acoustic setting, Renny’s performances are characterised by their authenticity - an uncontrived, almost conversational interaction, set to music.

Renny Field’s journey to this point has involved three independent studio albums, all critically acclaimed. His first, ‘Make Believe’ (2003) was followed in 2005 by ’26 Reasons’ and in 2009, his first self-produced record, ‘The Arena’.

His most comprehensive offering to date, ‘The Arena’ presents fourteen tracks ranging from heartfelt acoustic folk to rich cinematic pop, and featuring a selection of Australian artists with whom Field has collaborated over the past few years (including Kent Eastwood and Sam Buckingham). A collection of tales of love, life, loss, beauty, success and failure, ‘The Arena’ is bound together with a sense of hope and determination.

As the liner notes quoting Theodore Roosevelt infer, ‘The Arena’ is about getting amongst it - striving valiantly and being willing to make mistakes in order to either know “the triumph of high achievement” or at least fail “while daring greatly, so that his place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat”. Not a band mantra for an indie musician.

Field has promoted these records with extensive touring throughout Australia, as well as shows in Ireland, mainland Europe, London, New York and Thailand. Not to mention a mad dash to Fiji for a brief cameo appearance on reality TV.

The Arena album launch tour continues throughout 2010.

"The depth of craft in his writing and skill in his performance is extraordinary".
Drum Media.

"Singer-songwriters such as Field manage to capture and combine both authenticity and a certain infectiousness that so often eludes their pre fab recording artists colleagues."
iTunes review of "Molly Mae"

Limerick Songwriters @ The Locke Bar Thurs.12th Aug 2010

SongWriter Sessions @ The Locke Bar
Thursday 12th August 2010 9.00pm

The SongWriter Sessions@The Locke Bar, continues at The Locke Bar, George's Quay, Limerick 9.00pm Aug 12th with special guest Matteo Cullen.

Matteo Cullen started on piano with the Royal Irish Academy of Music and made his first public performances (on violin) with the Firmount Orchestra under Maurice Kane of Clongowes Wood College. As a teenager, he started listening to a wider range of music, including rock, blues, metal and hip-hop. He took up the guitar at age 16, and focused on it for the next few years. He has worked as a session musician for the singer-songwriters Peter Byrne, Orlagh de Bhaldraithe and Ronan Lynch; all three released CDs, and he recorded in RTE studios with Lynch for the Dave Fanning Sessions.

Moving to Japan in 2004, he focused on Irish traditional music, performing the songs of Planxty and Sweeney's Men in pubs and at cultural events. While in Japan he played with Altan, and also with Andy Irvine and Donal Lunny. He began composing songs over there as well, producing three albums of largely original material.

He moved to Limerick, and Mary Immaculate College, in 2007 while ther he is researching the music and performances of Rory Gallagher, Van Morrison and Phil Lynott. In addition to studying, he works as a music teacher of guitar and piano. He also works in a music shop in the city centre and offers his services as a freelance piano, guitar and bass player to professional and composing musicians.
"In an extended age of guitar players, I'm a bit different, in that I'm firstly a piano player. In terms of style, I leared a lot from guitarists, however, and enjoy giving flashy guitarists a run for their money on my keyboard". he says.

He has been writing and performing for about three years and has built a good reputation as one of the hardest working musicians in Ireland with over 500 gigs to his credit. Needless to say such hard work is resulting in an increasing number of fans who are moved by his music and his song "On the Street" has surely got to be the anthem for all the homeless people in the world. When he sings that song you can almost touch the emotion he arouses in his listeners.

Jimi is truly one of the last unsung Troubadours.
