SongWriter Sessions @ The Locke Bar
Thursday 8th April 2010 9.00pm

The SongWriterSessions@TheLockeBar, continues upstairs at The Locke Bar, George's Quay, Limerick 9.00pm April 8th.

This weeks special guest is singer songwriter Chris Wood.

Chris Wood has been playing the guitar and writing songs for nearly 20 years. Absorbing musical ideas from rock, folk, flamenco, blues, classical and African music he has developed his own intricate style of guitar playing and composition. Chris has taught the guitar in various formats for seven years and three years ago founded the Three Songs open mic night in the White House, Limerick. More recently he has been involved in the Limerick Songwriters sessions in the Locke Bar.


As Usual all aspiring songwriters are invited to attend and play there songs in front of a live audience. All types of music and singers are welcome, a limited amount of instruments will be available for use on the night.

The evening will features songwriters doing short sets of two or three songs. There will also be an opportunity for getting a YouTube video of your performance made free of charge and uploaded to our site. Performances will also be recorded and and available to download later. Host for the sessions are songwriters Brian Connolly, Chris Wood and Sean MacLeod. SongWriter Sessions@The Locke Bar takes place every 2nd, 3rd and 4th Thursday of the month.

This weeks special guest is Cork singer songwriter Barry Hawk

Promoting his current album '21st Century Bluez', Barry Hawk's music combines
present-day urban influences with traditional songcraft to create a
sound that is at once classic and yet totally of its time. Modern
reflections on the world are married to music that blends the best of funk,
rock,hip-hop and acoustic with radio-friendly hooks to create
songs that are original,contemporary and accessible.

Globetrotting Hawk has spent periods abroad in NYC, Barcelona,
Copenhagen, London and Turin as well as plying his trade in his native
Ireland. He's also led various line-ups under the name Wonderland, a
project of varied and diverse line-ups.

Tonight's performance will feature some reworked songs for the evenings acoustic setting as well as a pair of new-born songs.

this evening, a recession friendly 5 Euro.

Limerick SongWriters @ The Locke Bar.

Guitar Workshop with Chris Wood Thurs. 8th April 7.00pm.
to be held upstairs at the Locke Bar, Georges Quay, Limerick.

Aimed at guitarists with a basic knowledge of their instrument and with an interest in developing their music, the workshop will run for 1½ hours and will focus on knowledge of the fretboard, chords variations and picking styles. There will also be plenty of time for questions and discussions.

Absorbing musical ideas from rock, folk, flamenco, blues, classical and African music he has developed his own intricate style of guitar playing and composition. During the workshop Chris aims to explain a number of methods for developing standard guitar music and chords into more special and magical arrangements.

This weeks special guest is singer songwriter John Garvey.

John Garvey is a singer songwriter from Galway. He has been writing and preforming songs for 10 years. He has played in many different venues across Ireland and also internationaly where he was a finalist in the New Zealand National Songwriting competition. In 2005 he entered the International song contest of peace where he won the prize for "best Irish song". He is currently recording and plans to release an album in the summer of 2010.

SongWriter Sessions @ The Locke Bar

The SongWriterSessions@TheLockeBar, continues upstairs at The Locke Bar, George's Quay, Limerick 9.00pm March 11th.

This weeks special guest is singer songwriter Donnacha Toomey.

Donnacha Toomey is an Irish singer songwriter and guitarist originally from County Limerick. Having played in a number of bands primarily as a songwriter/guitarist he has adopted a solo approach in recent years.

Following solo appearances at "Spirit of Voice" in Galway, "Exile on South Main St." in Wexford and the "Limerick Acoustic Guitar Festival" Donnacha has shared the stage with a number of international performers including Gordon Giltrap, Sheila Chandra and Clive Carroll.
Donnacha has recently released "Carnival of Colours" an album that has already received much interest for its "judiciously crafted songs" and musicianship.

The album has received extensive airplay on well established RTE and BBC radio shows as well as a number of US folk stations. "Carnival of Colours" has allowed Toomey's sound to evolve even further, featuring acoustic tracks, a number of full band arrangements and instrumentals.

In 2005 Donnacha released "Reasons" a collection of songs which serves as an introduction to his rootsy acoustic guitar driven songs.
